At 15, Radha Rani Mukherjee was deserted by her husband and family-in-laws. She was in her fifth year of marriage when she got involved in a train accident that left her disfigured. Her husband left her for another woman while she was recuperating in the hospital after the accident.
Radha does not bear any grudges against her husband. “It is my own destiny,” she said. “It is in my palm lines that my fate was decided.”
Eventually, Radha made her way to Vrindavan, where she lived with her mother for the next 50 years following the incident. Radha has been going to the Bhajan Ashram every day for the past 40 years. Besides her faith in God, it is her way to earn some money and get food. “I chant at the ashram for my own survival,” she said.
With her mother’s love, she has managed to cope with her physical disabilities. Recently, her mother died when she learnt news of her husband’s death. Ever since, she placed all her trust in God. She believes that no one else can see her pain except for God.
“I am just at the feet of the Lord, and I feel safe there.” She said.
